Exclusive Interview With Author Brian Katcher

Author Brian Katcher

Last month DBRLTeen invited two Rock Bridge High School students, Isaac James and Jerome Simar, to meet with young adult author Brian Katcher to discuss his books “Playing With Matches” and “Almost Perfect.” Brian’s first book “Playing With Matches” was a finalist last year for Missouri’s Gateway Readers Award, while “Almost Perfect” won the American Library Association’s prestigious Stonewall Award and was recognized as one of the 2010 Best Books for Young Adults. Check out the full interview below as Isaac and Jerome ask Brian about what inspired his books and how aspiring young authors can improve their writing.

Also, don’t forget to check out some of Brian’s favorite book recommendations for teens: Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Shift by Jennifer Bradbury, 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey, and 1984 by George Orwell.
