Staff Review: Legend Marie Lu

Why I checked it out: The movie rights sold and I am a purist when it comes to reading the book before the movie comes out.

Why I liked it: Marie Lu makes no secret that “Les Miserables” was the inspiration for her book. We have Day, a brilliant criminal trying to protect his family, at odds with June, the military prodigy who has made it her mission to catch Day for what she believes to be the murder of her brother. I think I would have liked this book anyway, but you add in a dystopian setting where the United States is divided into two warring sections, toss in a government cover-up, a bit of romance, and a mysterious plague and I am hooked.

Warning: A small cliff-hanger, because, surprise surprise, this is the first book in a series.
