Gateway Mondays: Should I Stay or Should I Go Now

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

Life or Death?  These are Mia’s choices.  She is outside her body watching what goes on around her. Her parents have been killed in a car accident and she is in a coma.  Should she go back into her body to experience pain and grief, or die and join her family, missing out on so many life experiences? She reviews her life in a loving family, her passion for music, and her relationship with her boyfriend.

I liked the portrayal of Mia’s family. I found it believable; not too perfect, but not dysfunctional (a welcome change from a lot of teen books).  The story brought tears to my eyes several times, but it also made me smile.  It may get you thinking about your own life and what is important to you.

Where She Went tells the story of Adam, Mia’s boyfriend in If I Stay. Also, don’t forget to check out what Emily, one of our teen reviewers, had to say about this book!
