Teen Review: Exodus by Julie Bertagna

Reviewer: Wendy Z.

What you liked this book: I have to say that this was one of the most interesting science fiction novels that I’ve ever read. I originally had to read it for an assignment in my English class, but it soon turned out to be a great book that really grabbed my attention, and one that I’d probably read for my own entertainment.

The plot was very intense. The first chapter introduced the whole story in a unique way that was suspenseful and engaging. I also loved how the author described Mara in a way that’s relevant to the reader. This book also had a ton of descriptive/sensory language, which worked great for my English project.

Overall, I gave this book a 3-star rating because, although the plot was super unique and intricate in a good way, I thought it lacked energy in some places. If it was just a tiny bit more fast paced, it would be the whole package–the perfect book. This is a great read for ages 11 and up, and I would definitely recommend it to any of my friends and classmates.
