Columbia Values Diversity Celebration

The Columbia Values Diversity Celebration Planning Committee is seeking student writings which reflect the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the annual city-wide event that honors his life and teachings. The theme this year is “The Dream, Revisited.” Submissions should include the reasons why you believe Columbia is rich with diversity and should incorporate Dr. King’s dream of peace, justice, and equality for all people.

Students in grades 4-12 are invited to submit an original essay, poem, song, or rap. Selected entries will be chosen by an independent selection committee for publication in the 2013 Columbia Values Diversity Celebration Student Writings Booklet. This booklet will be distributed to over 1,100 people at the annual community celebration on January 17, 2013 and published on the celebration website.

Download an entry form. The submission deadline is Friday, November 16. You may call the City of Columbia’s Division of Human Services with any questions at (573) 874-7488.
