We want your help to make some YouTube videos for our web site. Reviews or trailers about books you’ve read, virtual tours of the library or teen tutorials are just a few of our ideas. What are yours? Cameras, tech support and snacks provided. Participants will need to have a parent sign a release form if they wish to have their video posted online. This is a part of the library’s new VOLaTiLE program: VOLunteer Teens in Library Environments. Register Now!
VOLaTiLE Giant PuppetsTeen volunteers are needed to create giant puppet characters for the library. These fanciful creations will be used in parades and for public display. Bring your ideas, large and small. We’ll provide materials and assistance to bring these fantastic characters to life. If you’re able, walk in the holiday parade with your creation along with the library book cart drill team on November 22. Volunteer for your community at your library! This is a part of the library’s new VOLaTiLE program: VOLunteer Teens in Library Environments.

Design a bookmark for Daniel Boone Regional Library’s upcoming Summer Reading program for kids and teens. The teen theme this year is “Express Yourself” and the kids’ theme is “Be Creative.” Help us promote summer reading this year by designing an original bookmark. The top three winners in each age bracket (13-18 or under 13) from each facility will get their bookmarks printed and distributed this spring and summer. Entry deadline is March 31. Join us this evening to say goodbye for another year to the beautiful star pattern known as the Summer Triangle where we’ll see the Ring Nebula, an exploding star, and the beautiful blue and gold star Alberio. The planet Jupiter, will also be just visible above the trees as it gets dark. By this time, we will know for sure the fate of Jupiter’s new Red Spot Junior and whether or not it has combined with the Great Red Spot. Early fall skies can be wonderful, so please plan to attend! Hosted by Val Germann and cosponsored by the Central Missouri Astronomical Association.

In conjunction with the exhibit “Alley Oop: 75 Years of the Comic World of V.T. Hamlin” at the University of Missouri, we will host a panel of young up-and-coming cartoonists, including Ted May, Sacha Mardou, Matt Kindt and Jeff Zwirek, who will share their experiences as cartoonists in this digital world. Kristin Schwain, Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Missouri, will moderate the panel. Cosponsored by the Special Collections, Archives and Rare Books Division of UMC.
